It started at 7.00 not 7.30 so watch out- we were late which didn't help. A bit static - visually unvaried and not as folksy as might have been expected from Opera North web page. Modern interpretation with medical witch may have been making some ironic point but we couldn't see it really. Music more Wagnerian than we expected. Some problems in this venue with voice/ orch balance, and one or two slightly dodgy moments with sync and tuning. Felt like the singers couldn't hear the orch very well, we could though- loud and clear. Interesting as hadn't seen Rusalka before, but no tingle factor for either of us. Audience applause polite at end- so perhaps we weren't alone.
